The Sandal That Moved Scholars to Tears
The Nalayn al-Nabawi — the Prophetic Sandal — has held a unique place in Islamic devotion for over a thousand years. When the great Maliki scholar Imam al-Qadi Iyad described it in his famous work Ash-Shifa, he recorded its precise shape as narrated by the companions who walked beside the Prophet ﷺ.
Across the centuries, carrying or wearing an image of the Nalayn became a symbol of love — a way to keep the Prophet ﷺ close. Scholars gifted images of it to their students as a blessing. Craftsmen recreated it in wood, gold, and silver as a form of remembrance. This tradition is alive today.
