The traditional category of Islamic "holy history" sources known as seerah includes this work (biography). It has a well-known and essential collection of truthful traditions (ahadith), which lists the key sources from which to learn the lovely qualities of the Holy Prophet, Peace and Blessings be upon Him—attributes to which Muslims throughout history have repeatedly referred for the purposes of contemplation and edification.

This sacred collection of customs has never been more important as a source of knowledge and inspiration than it is now, when the excesses of material concerns and the excess of material distractions seem to have caused people to lose sight of the fact that the greatest fruit of life and, consequently, of religious faith, is charm of soul.

The Prophet's hadiths serve as an example for all Muslims and show how Qur'anic theology was truly to be practiced in daily life. This massive corpus, which consists of 10 volumes, is essential.

Through the authentic recorded sayings conveyed by the renowned transmitter al Tirmidhi, who passed away in 912, almost 350 years after the passing of the Prophet Muhammad, the reader is able to travel back 14 centuries and experience being in the Prophet's presence. This specific collection contains the recorded statements made by the Prophet's contemporaries on his physical presence and person, right down to the shade of his skin and eyes.

The Qur'an, a respected literature, and the hadith, the sayings and deeds of the Prophet Muhammad as related by friends and followers during his lifetime, are the two primary sources utilized in Islam to describe the faith and its precepts. It presents a remarkable selection of hadith compiled by the ninth-century scholar at-Tirmidhi that humanizes the Prophet for contemporary audiences by presenting him through the eyes of contemporaries who gave reflection not only on his spiritual demeanor and character traits but also on his physical appearance and mannerisms, including his hairdressing, his sitting posture, and his sandals. This skillful translation, which includes the Arabic of one of the key Islamic texts, is long overdue in English.A Portrait of a Prophet: As Seen by His Contemporaries (Ash-shamā'il Al-Muhammadiyya) is the best book to read.

About The Author

Al-Jami' as-Sahih (also known as Jami' at-Tirmidhi), one of the six canonical Hadith compilations in Sunni Islam, was written by Muhammad ibn Isa at-Tirmidhi (824–8 October 892), a Persian Islamic scholar and Hadith collector.

He also compiled Hadiths about Muhammad, the Islamic prophet, and his persona in Shama'il Muhammadiyaha (often known as Shama'il at-Tirmidhi). Imam At-Tirmidhi was proficient in Arabic grammar and preferred the Kufa school to Basra since the former had preserved Arabic poetry as a fundamental source.
