About The Book

The present work is a translation of one of several sections of Imam Yusuf al-Nabahani’s acclaimed work on the Prophet’s biography, characteristics, and virtues (Allah bless him and give him peace), al-Anwar al-Muḥammadiyyah (The Muhammadan Lights).

The author dedicated this section to an exhaustive treatment of the Qur’anic verses that specifically relate to the Prophet Muhammad (Allah bless him and give him peace): his exalted rank and special status, as well as those verses comprising an exhortation to obey him and emulate his sunnah and the proper manners towards him, and dispelling obscurities arising from otherwise ambiguous verses revealed concerning him (Allah bless him and give him peace), amongst other such matters.

  1. On the Qur’anic verses that allude to his immense worth, his high renown, his sublime status, his lofty degree above the other Prophets and the honouring of his station,
  2. On His taking for him a covenant with the Prophets that they will surely believe in him and aid him,
  3. On His, the Most High’s, describing him a as a witness and attesting to his Messengerhood,
  4. On the previous scriptures, like the Tawrah (Torah) and the Injil (Gospel), alluding to his Messengerhood
  5. On the verses wherein He, the Most High, takes an oath to affirm his Messengerhood, His verses revealed to him and the loftiness of his rank and status a (consisting of five sections)
  6. On His, the Most High’s, describing him a as a light and a light-giving lamp
  7. On the verses obligating obedience to him and emulation of his Sunnah
  8. On the verses comprising the proper manners towards him
  9. On the verses wherein He, the Most High, responds to his enemies a by His Holy Self to raise his rank
  10. On dispelling the obscurities arising from the ambiguous verses revealed concerning him.​

About The Author

Imam Yusuf al-Nabahani (d. 1350/1932) was a Shafi'i scholar, judge, Sufi, poet and a prolific author, having penned over fifty works in various Islamic disciplines, such as jurisprudence, theology, hadith, Prophetic biography, heresiology and Sufism.

He served as Chief Judge of Jerusalem before being appointed Chief Justice of Beirut, where he remained for approximately twenty years.
